Pienza is a beautiful Renaissance town in the Orcia Valley of southern Tuscany. Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who became Pope Pius II, was born here in the 15th century and strived to turn it into the ideal Renaissance town. His family home, Palazzo Piccolomini, is at the center of town by the Cathedral on Piazza Pio II. Today Pienza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also famous for its pecorino cheese and spectacular views of the Val D'Orcia.
