One afternoon shortly after returning to CAVU from our daily snorkeling/fishing trip Pat asked me to hand him his spear, mask and fins. He then got in the water and swam away. He said he saw a school of large fish hanging out around the boat and wanted to check them out. Before I even had time to grab the camera he was swimming back to the boat with a Cero Mackeral that he had speared in open water! The exciting thing about this is that spearing a fish in open water rarely happens because they are too fast. Generally we have to take the dinghy to a coral head, anchor and swim down to find the fish tucked up in rocks and coral. We ate him that night and it was delicous!
