Milo Academy (South Umpqua River) Bridge

This privately owned, boxy looking, non-traditional covered bridge is the entrance to the tranquil setting for the Milo Adventist Academy, a Seventh Day Adventist Christian boarding high school along the upper South Umpqua River. The previous three bridges at this site were traditional wooden structures.

The current bridge has a corrugated metal roof and a steel truss with a metal interior skeleton for a longer lifespan and lower maintenance costs. They could decide to return to a nostalgic traditional wooden bridge in the future. You never know what is going to happen with covered bridges.

In some of the images you can see a long white rope hanging down under the bridge used by students for swinging out to dive into the river for summertime fun in warmer temperatures.
