Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) and The Flame Nebula (NGC 2024/Sh2-277)

Beckwith Township, ON

The Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33) is a dark nebula in the constellation Orion. The nebula is located just to the south of the star Alnitak, which is farthest east on Orion's Belt, and is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

The Flame Nebula, designated as NGC 2024 and Sh2-277, is an emission nebula in the constellation Orion. It is about 900 to 1,500 light-years away.

54 x 105 second subs (95 minutes accumulative exposure); ISO 1600; F/5 (aperture mask used).
Equipment: Nikon D7200; Nikon 300mm F/4E PF ED VR lens; Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer mini-German Equatorial Mount; Vello Intervelometer; Gitzo 5-Series Tripod; Really Right Stuff BH-40 Ball Head. (See next image for "The Setup").

Shot in RAW; converted to TIFF files using ACR; Stacked in DSS; processed in CS6.
