Bangalore has a population of between 9 and 10 million. The religion and cultural diversity is huge but the majority live with a level of tolerance and respect that impressed me.
Bangalore is the IT capital of India and while this has brought in some cases wealth, there are large areas of poor. Tent villages with their small crops can be seen across the road from a commercial shopping area.
I walked a lot (water bottles in the back-pack) as well as traveled by many autos (tuk-tuks). The autos are just awesome - and we only hit two motorbikes during my three weeks (no injuries). The traffic is an incredible site - constant tooting of horns. Motorbikes, cars and autos weave in and out across lanes to fill every gap - but it works! The traffic experience was incredible.
Even at times when I was carrying my 'good camera' I didn't feel at risk. Cross the road required patience and in the beginning I would stay by one of the locals as he/she crossed the road, hoping they liked to live!
