North wing mosaic (Roman) - Cupid on a Dolphin Mosaic - This mosaic was laid in the mid 2nd c. Cupid with his trident, rides a dolphin flanked by sea-horses and a sea-panther. There are also scallop shells and wine vases, appropriate images in a dining room. The small black bird on the farther vine-tendril border may be the mosaicist's trade mark. note also the 'doormat' with its change of design marking the entrance.
