a most curious crystal
thanks to Yves for the ID (see comment below)
to get adequate DOF, I used a composite of two 12 MB jpg files for this

1/20s f/5.6 at 105.0mm iso 800 monopod full exif

Superb! It is called selenite, crystals of calcium sulfate (or gypsum, or plaster, yes!) They have this curious way to grow in diformed shapes through a crystallization process called twinning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenite). Cheers, Yves
