blue dasher dragonfly head quartet

Southside Place, Texas

taken over a few seconds interval
this one was on this cut branch for at least 20 minutes
I believe it was preening
dragged the shutter speed, using the flash to freeze detail, but capturing movement
the head & forelimbs were moving about fiercely with the body still
I wonder why Odontates fix themselves to such branches, but now I think they may incorporate something from the cuttings as part of their maintenance, possibly of their extraordinary eyes

Nikon D7100 ,Nikkor 200mm f/4D ED-IF AF Micro
1/100s f/13.0 iso 640 ringflash monopod full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
