Indigo Bunting male

Southside Place, Texas

aka Passerina cyanea
a first sighting in our backyard with kudos to my Mom's quick eyes
doubtless he is heading north from his winter in Mexico
the sky was overcast & the light low
I took this through a window pane as well
despite this the color is very much as I saw it
the intense blue color is the result of light diffraction through their feathers
incredulously, this bird is said to be black, without any blue pigment
