Dad's old pics from Japan and Korea 1951/52

Ran across a bunch of old slides in my dad's stuff from his tour in Korea and Japan. Thought I'd share them.
Dad was a dedicated amateur photographer. He once told me he quit smoking in Korea so he could trade his cigarette rations for color film. Color film was apparently quite a luxury in those days. There must be 100 BW photos for every color back then. Hope you all appreciate his pictures.

F51 MUSTANG AREA WAS LIKE I REMEMBER SEPT 51 TILL SEPT 52 I WAS A ELECTRICIAN ON THE F51..OUR PARKING AREA WAS NEXT TO THE METEORS.WE TOOK A LOT OF PRIDE WITH THOSE PLANES DAM THEY WOULD COME BACK SHOT ALL TO HELL.THE PILOTS KNEW WHEN WE PUT THOSE ON THE LINE.THEY WERE READY TO FLY. When the pilots came back from Japan R&R they loaded us with the the best whisky you could buy. When they failed to return from a mission on time we would sit on a wing till they did or we were told they were shot up and they had to land else where.. or they were not coming back. When I was discharged I re up in the Paratroopers. I had 5 boys they have stories of their own.

These are a treasure- well preserved images of the Korean War. I've seen these planes in museums, and an occasional airshow. To see them photographed in action, in color, amazing. Better than any images in history books that I've seen.

Tremendous photos. The summer of 1950, our Army family lived at Camp Hakata, north of and in the flight path of Itazuke. That summer, spent a lot of time watching those F-80 shooting stars, fully loaded w/ ammo & fuel flying barely over the roof of our house. It wasn't hard to imagine the strain on each pilots face as he must have wondered, would he be making the return flight. God Bless our service men and women who put it on the line for a democratic South Korea ( and all over the globe).

Thank you for sharing theses pictures of the so called forgotten war. My wife is Korean American and will never forget the GIs that did so much for Korea. I have posted some photos from Osan AFB 1964-65.

These are wonderful pictures. Do you have any more from Kimpo? My Dad was there in 52. He flew 100 missions in 6 months. I've never seen color photos from the base before. Thanks so much for putting these online.
