End of the trail. Sadly, the glacier is retreating rapidly. Signs along the trail indicate how far it's retreated in the last 20-30 years. Visitors are repeatedly warned not to venture further, as unstable ground, rock and sudden ice falls kill wary hikers each year.
Jim and I were tempted by a heli-hike glacier experience - a helicopter ride from town onto the glacier, a guided hike and return. Unfortunately the 4-hour experience for the the two of us was $900, so we opted for the trail hike instead.
