An image that could probably only be taken in Ireland! Throughout the country there are quite a few of these Calvary scenes. As I went about my business of getting some images, I happened to see a huge flock of sheep approaching in the distance guided by their owner and all marked in red dye for identification purposes. I was instructed to take up position behind the wall in case I got swept away!! So they passed by, watched over by the Calvary scene - an surreal sight indeed. Note the single sheep on the rock opposite seemingly doing a headcount. Found in southwest Ireland marking the border between counties Cork and Kerry, the Healy Pass is a popular tourist route at an altitude of 300 metres giving sweeping panoramas of both counties. The original track, called the Kerry Pass, was cut during the Great Famine in the 1840's as a poor relief public works project. It was renamed after Timothy Michael Healy, former Governor-General of the Irish Free State, who died in 1931 shortly after the road was improved.
