Gallery: Jumping Spiders

My favourite spiders, maybe my favourite arthropods. :-) These little ones cured my arachnophobia. Honestly, they have installed a huge respect and even affection for spiders in me. Jumping spiders hunt like the big cats of the jungle, they look for their prey with their huge front eyes and then pounce like a cougar. Fantastic to see. All the while they tie themselves to something solid with a thread, if you look hard, you can see the thread in one of the pics. Jumping spiders are agile, curious little personalities who use their huge brains to explore a giant world. One even jumped into my viewfinder! I wonder what that might have looked like to it.

They are very very small though. Most of these pics were done at 1:1 or almost 1:1 and as you can see, they still take up very little space on the sensor. I need that Canon 1x-5x macro lens. :-D

As always, these photos are for sale. Though I doubt anyone might want to have a jumping spider in their living rooms. ;-) (Website licenses are available too, though :-) )
