This is Shackleton's from the 1907 Nimrod expedition (Nimrod was the ship). They wintered over here to be in position to go inland during the next summer with their ponies and dogs, the previous summer having been spent getting to the area. The hut is right by the Adelie rookery, and the seal carcasses were from the hut resident's use: food and no doubt more.
