There is a saying in Tromso, that every house
should have a view to the fjord and to mountains.
Almost all Troms county houses are made of wood.
There are two reasons why: Wood has good
heat-insulating capacity. The effort to obtain a
warm house in a cold Norwegian winter made timber the clear winner.
The second is that wood is a hygroscopic material, living with humidity.
