Vignettes of Venice, May 2004

Venice has been called "the most romantic city in the world" and rightfully so! With its inimitable waterways and arches, adorable villas perched on the water and scenes straight out of Romeo and Juliet, its splendor and romance is unmatched by any other city anywhere in the world! We had the good fortune of staying in Carneregia, the legendary "Jewish Ghetto of Venice" - the setting for Shakespere's celebrated oeuvre, The Merchant of Venice. This provided us with the eclectic opportunity of sampling not only authentic Venetian cuisine and wines like Chianti, Valpocella and Barollo, but also Jewish/Israeli cuisine served with kosher wines in an ambiance that was simply out of this world!
