Yosemite - Winter toward Spring, MARCH 2012, a photo log of visit

The photos, for photo pals, are mostly 1024 pixels wide if you choose 'Original' size below the first photo.

These are from a great, little 3-day adventure that my cousin Ely and I shared with a group bound for Yosemite via Amtrak and a large connecting bus, and it was an amazingly comfortable, relaxing, and even fun ride up and back.  In fact, on the 3.5 hr train ride back, it seemed like 45 minutes to me although we didn't get back until almost midnight.

We had quite varied weather.  On the day we were going there, the forecast had been for 3 days of rain.  By contrast, for Oct. 29-30, 2011 workshop, the weather was beautiful.

  • As it turned out, Day 1 was overcast, with little contrast possible in most photos.  We had constant showers the first two days.  Our terrific Valley Floor Tour guide, Herb, was full of interesting info presented well in conversational style, and, as a professional photographer, he also took good "I was here!" photos of us :-).  I'll later do a separate page for some interesting travel images from Day 1.

  • On the 2nd day, we had better light and much better contrast.
    But the showers turned into a more assertive rain on the 2nd day, leaving my memory card with an "ERROR!" (and my jacket soaking wet) at the end of the day after we'd wandered down to Lower Yosemite Falls, as I kept taking photos (and video) while the lens was collecting rain drops!  The rain made for more saturated colors though.

  • On the 3rd day, the sun came out unexpectedly! from time to time.  After those gray skies earlier, some blue between the clouds was a welcome sight.
Unfortunately, I uploaded just a few shots from Day 1 of the trip and want to add more later on, as it was a terrific trip up.   Cameras used were a Canon S95 and the Canon SX10 IS.
  Again -- For Day 1, I'll add later (in 2018) more views from Amtrak and also views along Merced River as seen from our big comfy bus's large windows.

My cousin Ely uploaded a PhotoDiary of all 3 days and her photos are gorgeous, but Picasa and Google Photos changeover made those photos inaccessible for now.
