This image is courtesy of Google Earth - thanks Google! And please ignore my copyright statement! To it I've added the approximate run of the Military Demarcation Line (the red dots) and have marked five significant points in yellow. South Korea is in the lower right corner of this shot, North Korea is west and north of the MDL.
Prior to the Axe Murder Incident, North Koreans would reach the JSA via the Bridge of No Return (#1), passing through South Korean territory to do so. After the incident that was no longer permitted and the bridge was closed. You can see the river that is running north-south in the middle of the photo, and how subsequently the North Koreans were forced to construct the 72 Hour Bridge (#3) in order to reach their side of the JSA. The three blue and four grey conference huts of the JSA can clearly be seen, with the MDL running straight through them.
Check Point 5 (#5) is where I shot my photos of the Bridge of No Return, Panmunjeom village (#4), and the North Korean soldier wearing white Nikes.
