"The Pig and Whistle" mess in South Africa during Boer War. Granddad was a member of the "Buffs", a nickname for men in the Kentish (and other county) Yeomanry Regiments. It referred to Buffalos possibly, as a result of their prior service in Africa.

The Buffs was not a Masonic order but a nickname for men in the Kentish (and other county) Yeomanry Regiments. It referred to Buffalos possibly as a result of their prior service in Africa.
