Nesebar, Bulgaria.
The Old Town of Nessebar is situated on a small peninsula in the Black Sea and through a narrow
isthmus it's connected to the land. The place has been populated ever since the Bronze Era.
The village is Thracian by origin of the second millennium before Chris (BC) and the name it bore
was Mesambria. In the 6th century BC Greek colonizers set foot on the place. In 72 BC the town
was taken over by a Roman regiment and that caused the town to decline. Later the Greeks
regained their control over the place and it became an important sea base. There followed periods
of Greek and Bulgarian rule of the town until the Second Bulgarian State was established, where
under the rule of Tsar Ivan Alexander (1331-1371) the town became an important centre.
