Schloss Eisenbach is a castle hidden on the eastern edge of the Vogelsberg Mountains in Central Germany.
Its earliest documentation is from the year 1217. The castle was destroyed in 1269, but rebuilt within ten years.
Since 1429 the Riedesel family, the hereditary Marshalls of Hesse have owned the property and until 1806 they also owned the nearby city of Lauterbach as well as 52 villages.
The Riedesel Lands also called the "Junkerland" were in effect an independent country over 500 years and were ruled from this castle.
Apart for minor renovations, there have been few alterations or additions of note since the 17th Century making this a unique castle in Germany.
As not many people know if its existence, and it is rarely visited by tourists, the purpose of this gallery is to document a castle that has been continuously lived in by the same family for almost 600 years.
