Bayport, a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

The cities of Solana Beach and Encinitas are paying over $30 million to have their beaches restored.
They were destroyed by the Winter Storms we had the last two years.
This is done by using a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger to suck up sand 25-30 miles off shore.
The sand is then deposited just off shore. Two tugs makes sure the ship does not run itself aground on sand bars.
When done Solana Beach will have twice as much beach as it does now.

Sounds like an expensive proposition. But can the storms be held at bay in future?
