South Fortuna Mountain

There's an old gold mine at the top. They used mules to transport equipment up the steep trail, and presumably some gold down.
The mine was abandoned before 1900. Many years later someone managed to drive their Jeep down the mine shaft and had to be rescued in a complicated operation.
After that they got Boy Scouts to climb up the mountain and fill the shaft with dirt and rocks.
Sounds like an unbelievable story, especially if you have ever climbed this steep mountain, which I have several times.
