Definately better in B&W. I'm pretty well convinced now that B&W is much better for a whole lot of portraits and this one especially. It looks crisper and attention is focussed far more on the subject.
WOW! This portrait is awesome in B&W ~ much better than the color. I agree with Lisa, portraits in B&W are most often much better. BV
I am doing a trial with Aperture 3 this month. So much to learn, but I'm digging it.
This portrait works really well in B&W Walter. The facial lighting becomes the focal point and this lighting is superb. I didn't see the color version .... but this portrait surely looks much better in B&W! "V"
Yes, that's so much better! I must admit that I like portraits very much in bw, often even more than in colour, and one of the reasons could be that any colour in the background can be distracting. SO: this is perfect, even though the silhouette of the chair is still quite strong.
I decided that this image did not work at all in color. I found the pink and purple tones too intense and the green chair in the background was really distracting. I tried sepia on this, but think b&w works better and makes it look sharper. The crop was changed as well taking more off the bottom. The following changes were made in Lightroom 2.6, exposure and contrast increased slightly. Clarity and Sharpening also increased. I think these four changes, plus the b&w conversion take care of some of the problems raised with the original (before) image. Let me know what you think.
