Viva Italia

Sharing our Italian heritage meant sharing the Blue shirt of Italy's national soccer/football team, which I bought on the streets of Avellino in summer 2000. Here Tiffany shows proper fan application of the beloved blue. As a 3rd generation Italian-American, I'd like to know, why blue? The famous Italian tricolore only includes red, white and green...so where does this blue come from? Well, thanks to Andrea from Italy, here's the explanation:

Most of National Italian sport teams wear blue shirts because of an old event: in 1911 the Italian team (the shirt was white) met in a match Hungary, one of the best teams in that years. They alway lost againt them before. That day they had first time a blue shirt, in honour of Savoia royal family and of the King of Italy (blue was the colour of Savoia flag). As they won, they decided to wear a blue shirt as official shirt.
