There was extensive damage from the floods and mudslides of 3 years ago, throughout many parts of Funchal, from the seafront right up into the hills above, when the three rivers that flow down to the sea burst their banks and deposited much debris at their mouths. Pictured is the large redevelopment of the promenade slowly taking place, which is expected to take another 18 months to complete.
