:: My Fishy Friends * 2024 ::
Friends with wild lake fish: This is year ten that I have been friends with a group of wild Fish in my town. They all so know me and wait for me every spring time.I have named two of these fish Claude Monet and Cleopatra. I have about seven bass that have joined my club and about twenty sunfish as well.I take photographs of them and they swim with me good distances and allow me to touch and hold them because I also feed them. It is a marvellous feeling being friends with wild fish. They are mostly Bass and Sunfish. I am not so much friends with the catfish here either. There are a few other of my fish photos from other places like Mexico but only a few. Oh my!
:: HoLy * CoW !!! A portrait of India from an UDderLY different perspective. ::

Holy Cow was my way of saying ......Thank You !!!! to the friendly loving cow that has supplied humans with what are considered the best things in life. It's another relationship all together, when cows roam freely and have the choice to interact how ever they wish. I chose India to make the Cow the true Star that it is because it's been respected and worshipped there from time before memory and I grew up raising cows as a boy. When this opened in India I was covered by every major Newspaper, Tv and Radio back in 1995. I became a National Celebrity in the country at that time. Also I was runner by a car on Christmas Day in Benares India, a 12,000 year old city and made the front page of the local Newspaper as the official Miracle for Christmas by their God Shiva because I was devoted to the Cow!.
These are all proofs and not the gold toned originals that toured the world.
These images were made over an 10 year period. 1988-1998 While working on this project I had about 30
situations where I think the cow read my mind. Certainly a form of ESP exists with this Bovine.The original exhibition prints are all Archival Gold Toned Silver Prints.These are proofs to protect my images. The show has been exhibited @ OK Harris Gallery, New York City, Lithuanian Museum of Art,Chicago, Montreal, National Center for the Performing Arts,Piramel Gallery ,Mumbai, India , Toronto and Touring show with Fuji Film Galleries,Lithuania Subjects include, Nandi, Shivas Bull, Khamadenhu,Cow Bell, Gau Mata, Goshalla or Mother Cow, Holy Provider, Shapeshifter,Gomukka,Cow Dust,When the cows come home,Cow Yoga Position. :: Greek Statues" Born in Stone" ::

Stone is the primordial and most prevalent medium of the human race. It was the original material of habitation in caves and stone huts and the substance that gave shape to our greatest monuments and places of worship. Everyday-stone eventually gave way to the refinement and elegance of marble, and the ever-presence and durability of granite, but stone is stone and it has served humanity in all its quests including the artistic.
There are shapes and spirits in stone, there are gods and heroes and common folk and ideas and poetry in stone; it can be claimed that all that is dear and all that is feared in every aspect of the human experience begins in stone and can be expressed by variously manipulating it, carving it, shaping it, taming it, building with it, but never totally conquering it because it is more powerful and all-encompassing even than the infinite capacity of the human mind. Many of these are sculptures are from the island of KOS Museum. They are of the ancient Greek Gods and other famous persons of the time.. Hermes, Hippocrates, Artemis, Athena, Pan etc... This is a work in progress, so please do return to see how these images will change as my technique gets better.
The very best of this work was eventually exhibited at The National Archeological Museum , Athens, Greece 2015. It was called Born in Stone.
:: 1984 Altered *** St@teS.... Images Burnt with FiRE ::

In 1984 my parents farmhouse burnt down, which stored my belongings. Upon returning I found in the ashes some slides I had taken years earlier. The slides were remarkably transformed by the fire, then the winter with snow , freezing rain and then all of the summer's treatment.... until I dug them out in the fall, when I finally returned. So amazed by the few that had images left on them , they looked like they were photographs of the decisive moment of nuclear destruction. Later I decided to immitate the process by painting the slides with common household toxic ingredients, like fingernail polish, Easy-Off, airplane glue, magic markers, and then burning them with fire.
*******On some slides the images were burnt off then reburnt on again without burning through the slide,this is my DoubleBurN Technique.******** A real phoenix and the fire story. This portfolio was also called Meltdown at one time.
Published in Darkroom Photography Magazine twice. Photo Life and various newspapers. The image of Flowering Destruction,"Woman in Market" won me a bronze medal at the New York City International Art Competition 1985, and a Gold Award in an International Environmental Photography show in Lithuania called "Earth Everybodies Home".1996.

:: Sacred Sadhus Portraits @ 1998 Kumbh Mela & 2010 Maha Kumbh Mela ::
In 1998 I attended the Kumbh Mela in Hardwar, India. After many tests,without knowing it I became the official photographer of the Sadhus. These are but a few from about 100 portraits I made. Through out the 6 weeks I was to participate in the festival, I witnessed many magical events. But the best was developing my film on site and giving each of them their portrait as quickly as 2 hours later.
Now twelve years later I have returned for the follow up Kumbh Mela at Haridwar. I find old friends with the Sadhus and find out some of the cherished ones I knew have passed away.

:: Sunflower Study ::
These are images of some sunflowers a friend gave to me. I photographed them over a couple of weeks as they slowly diminished from vibrant and bright to withered and faded. I enjoyed the process and the images I made of these flowers kept me transfixed as they revealed images of unimagined beauty through every aspect of their life.
:: Cartoon Society 1985-2005 ::
Between 1985 and 2005 I used to photograph with Polaroids and draw on them moments later. This was because I believed us Baby Boomers grew up watching cartoons and everyone had an inner cartoon of themselves. Usually I made a few giving one to the participant. Sometimes it was -16 degrees outside like the one with the Cigar store in NYC. There are many more good images in the portfolio which are not shown here. Most of these were made in Toronto, Montreal, India and NYC.
Eventually, I had a grant from Polaroid to work on a variety of these images. The other portfolios were Cartoon Cemetery and My Mothers Red Wig. I was also Berenice Abbotts last assistant as well.
:: Stone-Faced Sober ::
In the Laurentians north of Montreal there are magic forests with primordial rocks that spoke to me on first sight. They are elusive, of course, these entities waiting sober, embedded in stone, with emotions that have endured the millennia. But they are there for all to see, and to fantasize. Work In Progress***These are the latest stacked stone sculptures that I have made here in Turkey. Originally I got the idea to make these from visiting Cappadocia back in 1977. Years later having forgotten about the rock formations there I started to make these. Upon a return visit a few years ago I realized where the original inspiration came from.These sculptures are from around Bodrum and Bitez. In most cases they only last a day. They are incredibly fragile so even a heavy wind can knock them down. They are built with the idea that wounds and hurt feelings can be diminished by making these. In ancient times this was the norm for the passage of travellers around Greece and In Turkey. Piled stones have always been a way of marking special places or grave sites. I hope you enjoy my humble stacked stone sculptures. In some cases I wish the weather was better but when the mood calls and the stones reach out to me, I must build them. I have been doing this since I was a boy in Maine. Different rocks produce different kinds of sculpture and in the end you have to work with what is immediately around you. Many times they have fallen before i could even complete them.

:: The ORIGINS of Life ::

Life started in the Primordial Stream. In the beginning there was only slime.It oozed green from the bowels of the earth, bubbling forth, celestial song heralding the moment***In comedy, as in life, timing is everything.It took an eternity for conditions to be right, ripening in exquisite anticipation***Covered in ice, ravaged by wind,the germ of creation awaits its turn in the evolutionary cycle, relentlessly to multiply***At first, some tentative steps.A few primitive plants, glowingly uncomplicated, mere forebears
of the glory in store***Primordial life-forms in first blush,Like brushstrokes of an impressionist master capturing a garden
of as-yet-undiscovered delights***An undefined amalgam, a bouquet.A priceless gift from Gaia, the most-generous, the all-giving, all-forgiving Mother of us all***It comes from the sky, as the heavens darken.
It points the way to cataclysmic change a cascade of riches of everlasting strife***This is a time before death.
That will come later. Now life begins. It is creation.And for the moment, indestructible.

:: My Natural Stone Sculptures on Crete 2007&8 ::
These are sculptures I made on the island of Crete, Greece in October & November 2007 and then again January, Feb & March 2008. Crete is the birthplace of Zeus and the home of the Minotaur who lurked in the Labyrinth. From King Minos' Palace Icarus tryed to escaped and flew to near the sun and melted his wax wings and fell into the sea. These are just some of the islands legends. Thus the stones and rock are unique and they inspire me constantly.

On the digitally exposed photographs that had silhouetted the rock sculptures,
I applied an equalizing filter to this area thus revealing the lost details. I adjusted the color
and they seemed more revealingly mystical.

:: ***WilDFloWeRS @ MidNighT ::
These images were all made with wildflowers..Mostly in Maine and Quebec. When doing this I thought out the flowers. Asking them which ones would like to loose their full life in exchange for entering the digital world as a newly fashioned way of showing flowers. So the ones I choose seemed to beckon me when I walked through out the country side. Waving fiercely in the wind while others just bearly moved. At first it was hard and took many tries to make a succesfull image that was instantly surpringly nice. Then I started really seeing exacting images that formed in my head . Then once in the in the studio when I copied what I saw in my mind, it was these images that were the best. It was like the secret life of the plants being revealed that was a visual vocabulary that was benefical to both of us.

:: Wrapping up a Film Festival ::
While covering the Toronto International Film Festival back in the early nineties, I was shooting both B&W and color slide for People Magazine. This is very hard because no body gets much time with the stars. For photographers when you had the opportunity you could take about a half dozen images and that was about it because of the flash. At press conferences you could almost shoot to your hearts content, at the beginning , but still it is limited.Heres some of the Color images I managed to make. Now so many years later I have done some post photoshop work to wrap this show up.
:: Anthropormorphic Google Earth Images ::

an·thro·po·mor·phic
Pronunciation:
\ˌan(t)-thrə-pə-ˈmȯr-fik\
Function:
adjective
Etymology:
Late Latin anthropomorphus of human form, from Greek anthrōpomorphos, from anthrōp- + -morphos -morphous
Date:
1827
1 : described or thought of as having a human form or human attributes
2 : ascribing human characteristics to nonhuman things
— an·thro·po·mor·phi·cal·ly \-fi-k(ə-)lē\ adverb
NOTE:I have always been interested in the designs pertaining to nature. I grew up loving sandpits and travel esp over rugged areas of the world. I am also attracted to Mimetoliths esp in stone and I consider myself a geomancer as well. These images have evolved to be anthropormorphic containing something that looked like it had living qualities about it. Otherwise just the plain Abstracts of Google's satelite map can be inspiring and fun to look at minutely from above, knowing alot of these places have more distance than you could walk in a day.. See my Mimetoliths Movie here :http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi25100313/
:: Cartoon Society 1988-1998 #2 ::
Everyone has a cartoon inside of them. Some place in the youngest of years most of us related to a cartoon and therefore exude this quality when properly created with the appropriate materials. I discovered this with over exposed Polaroids drawn upon minutes after they developed a bit..Over a period of ten years, as my technique grew, I took all opportunities to make Photo Cartoons. These are basically the Polaroids only slightly touched up in photoshop for the line quality. Otherwise what you see is what was made minutes after exposure by drawing directly onto the Polaroid. As time passed my line became finer and my magic marker of choice became apparent.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MiMEtoLITHs had the 12 planets first!
Algis Kemezys, whose documentary Mimetoliths
extrapolates on the importance of the numeral 12 in the history and the
folklore of our culture. As expressed by the mystic and mathematician
Pythagoras there are twelve planets in the heavens, just as there are
twelve gods on Mount Olympus, and twelve months in the year, and twelve
Apostles in the Bible, and twelve bagels in a dozen.
The big difference between my twelve planets (or rather, Pythagoras’) include Anticthone, a
paradisiacal, earth-like world, equidistant from the sun and
undiscerned by our telescopes because its orbit mimics ours, but on the
opposite side of the sun and therefore invisible to us.
For more about Anticthone, as well as the golden proportion of
1:1.618, the Minotaur, Artemis the goddess of the forest, Medea the
sorceress, the Phaestos Disc and its message, and all the other
creatures, gods, chimeras, and myths that lie dormant for millennia in
the rocks and the cliffs and the beaches of Crete, the most ancient of
Europe’s civilisations, check out Mimetoliths. Already shown in six
festivals, it plays this Autumn in Turkey as part of the U.N. sponsored
film festival Mediterranean Environmental Award, and also in Charlotte,
North Carolina’s Cackalaky Film Festival, and in all four locations
(Alaska, Arizona, Oregon, New Zealand) of the Night Gallery Film
Festival. It will be launched commercially in October at Cannes’ MIPCOM
by its distributor TPI out of Chantilly, Virginia.

Montreal has a prolific group of avant guard Grafitti artist. MOST OF THESE IMAGES ARE NOW GONE. With a hot spot in Mile End for their creations. Always changing, many of these have disappeared soon after I photographed them with new works of Art. What makes this body of work so interesting is that it is unlike anything that was produced in Montreal over the last 25 years that I remember.
:: Neo Crete Sculptures 2000AD ::
I started making balanced stacked stone sculptures nine years ago on Crete. These are the firsts ones that I made. They are not very good but at the end of this Crete Collection I have put a few that I have done just now in February 2012.
:: My Abstract Expressionist Photography ::
These are photographs of the moldy lichen covered walls and rocks inside an ancient church in Bitez ,Turkey. I photographed this last year but forgot where I down-loaded the images to and returned again this year and made new ones. I have accentuated the tonality here by extending the images saturation. I found the resulting photographs to be like Paintings done in Abstract Expressionism manner. I have started with a photograph of the church I did two years ago and followed up with one I did this year. I found this Church by walking the dry stream beds north from the coast. To my surprise and delight there are some rare Byzantine dolphin mosaics on the floor. If i had not been just out there wandering I would never have found this place because it is not in any tourist book or map. After traveling around the world a few times this is the best find I ever made. See the Dolphin Mosaics here at my other gallery.

:: Pareidolia ::

Pareidolia ( /pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-doh-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records played in reverse. The word comes from the Greek para- ("beside", "with", or "alongside", in this context meaning something faulty or wrong, as in paraphasia, disordered speech) and eidōlon ("image"; the diminutive of eidos – "image", "form", "shape"). Pareidolia is a type of apophenia.********There is an universal tendency among mankind to conceive all beings like themselves, and to transfer to every object, those qualities, with which they are familiarly acquainted, and of which they are intimately conscious. We find human faces in the moon, armies in the clouds; and by a natural propensity, if not corrected by experience and reflection, ascribe malice or good- will to every thing, that hurts or pleases us. --David Hume*
