The Greek river gods, known as the Potamoi, were divine personifications of rivers, the sons of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. They embodied both the life-giving and destructive forces of rivers, serving as protectors of youth, agricultural bounty, and as witnesses to oaths. They were often depicted as reclining men or bulls and had offspring known as the Naiads.
