I am constantly looking for photos of Famagusta pre-1974 as I spent from 1961 to 1964 in Famagusta and I am sitting here with tears in my eyes at what has happened. If I feel like this how must those who had to leave their homeland feel. So, so sad, but thank you for the selection of photos you have produced.

I was lucky enough to spend two weeks at the Florida Hotel, Famagusta, in 1954, on leave from the Suez Canal Zone. I went back to the Island on business in March 1974 and had lunch in the Hotel. I was amazed at the development and then shocked when I later found out what happened later in 1974. I have visited Cyprus three times since then but never been able to re-visit my old haunts. I would love to purchase one of the postcards featuring the Florida Hotel, much altered from my days in 1954. Is it possible?

I'm having tears in my eyes looking at these so magnificent pictures of this priceless Paradise On Earth;I was walking on these beaches until I was twenty years old,then I immigrated to Canada,till the day I write this. Varosi you are an unforgetable jwell in my life,for the next days and years to come.

Very excited to find all these old pictures of beautiful Famagusta,,,, Its very sad , how it looks now ..after 37 yrs of neglect and decay... I am very interested to know if any one has any holiday brochures ( pre 1974) tha t i could purchase, or even see...These fine hotels on the beach front, and in Varosha, must have been magnificent in their day...It really is a damn disgrace that this can be allowed to happen , in this `day and age`..that it is all fenced off,,What is the point ???? If `the talks` ever come to a conclusion, and this fine City is returned ,,just think what `the New Famagusta ` could mean to the Island .... It would be rebuilt, and be `The Jewel of the Med``.. I really am very interested to know more about the `real history ` of this Idylic golden beach resort ...Can anyone help me please ..... regards John from Paralimni ....

I saw Ammohostos from Deryneia, one month ago. It was terrible and sad. A beautiful city looked like a ghost. I hope that Cyprus will reunite...

Brought back 3 years of happy memories in the sixties living just about everyday on the best beach in the world. I made the mistake of going over the "line" a year ago and was heartbroken to see what was once a clean and tidy place looking terrible. I only lasted an hour and crossed back with tears in my eyes. I have now move to live in Cyprus within veiw of the old place but Iwill never go back till the Turks have handed it back and left. The UN should be ashamed that this has been allowed to go on for so long.

Alexi mou a very good collection.......I have more to send you soon from my own "hardcopy" collection!!......hope we can enjoy our town soon under a reunited island, but, this will also depend on Feb's elections too......

What a treat, but a sad one to see old Famagusta photos. My home was Twiga Tower between Salaminia and Florida hotels. The more I see these the more determined I become to live there again. Some pics will not show. Can it be fixed? Thank you all.

The View from Apollo 11, Ippocratous and north part show our apartment in the bottom left of the views. We lived there from 1963 - 1965. The apartment belonged to Dr Marangos. My daughter, Heidi, was a playmate of Marina Marangos although she was a few years younger. I can't thank Vivian, Pavlos and Dave enough for renewing our love for this time. I do hope the island will be reunited soon.
