Largely forgotten in modern Russia, composer and conductor Nikolai Tcherepnin (1873-1945) was central to the flourishing russian music life of beginning of the last century being a pupil of Rimski-Korsakov, teacher of Prokofiev, writing ballets for Diagilev. His son Alexander Tcherepnin (1899-1977) continued the family composing tradition in the West as well as his grandson and grand-grandson.
