Hi, I came in from the DPreview forum. This 'my girls' family gallery screams out that you need a few hints, and I can't help myself. But I am doing it with the best intentions. I am not a D70 narc or something. (Straps on helmet and flame proof overalls) None of these pix is flattering to the girls. They are all mediocre happy snaps. There is one portrait with a lovely and expressive 'look' that tells a story, the pic taken in front of a street map. Take them down and replace them. I get the impression these are the only pics of the girls you have ever taken. They have good faces and hair, natural lips and great eyes etc. So thats a good start.... but With such a capable camera and such faces and hair on such petite & attractive ladies you should achieve great results only if you apply a lot more shutter-finger. Some of the faces are shadowed and obviously not composed at all. Also some sleeves over exp whilst opposing sleeve is under exp? And the girls didnt want their pics taken judging by their expressions... Hint: Wait for a cloudy/overcast day and go crazy near plain backgrounds (ie not the mall or the street or the kitchen - try sand and sky alone, pool, steam sauna, forest (not garden), fog/mist, desert, drapes... Nerves and reluctance of 'model' - train them up. They are self-conscious and thinking 'What will my friends think' etc. There is a 'amatuer' lack of ego (and thats natural after all). So give them a mask to hide behind at first whilst they build up confidence and enthusiasm. Literally; a mask. Maybe scarf and welding goggles, whatever. They can let loose and almost pretend to be someone else, Ms Hollywood starlet etc. The pics will usually be junk... keeper portraits have great eyes and teeth... but at the 'mask stage' it don't cost for film and printing etc, only your time. And its lighting practice. And you might get a keeper. Later, apply flattery, pay for a hair makeover or some device to ego-stir; Shift into top gear and cruise.
