Rushing

I've took this photo in the subway months ago,
but somehow I've forgot to upload it.
A longer exposure inside Lisbon's Chiado subway station,
which for me is always where my trips start and where they end...

I like the way people rush up and down, completly disconnected from
the place where they are, their iteneraries made automatic by
the ubiquitous journeys. There is a strange feeling of safety there,
that probably comes from the way the white light crawls up the curved
ceeling, creating the illusion of a shield. One walks up and down those
bending lights and forgets about the parlous state of the world outside...
I think this is a special place.
Of course, it can be that I am just crazy...
The last one is probably right.

Fabulous moody shot Ana! Love the movement, and the composition is perfect. This is a shot you could see up on a wall at an exhibit. Congratulations dear friend! :-)

Yeah! What Niall said. To me, this station means either changing platforms from the blue line to the green line for Cais do Sodre, or the long walk out to get to FNAC. It also reminds me of football fans on their way to Luz to see Benfica lose (hehe). You have captured it's spirit very well. It is always busy with people running to and fro, deep in their own thoughts, and trying to beat each other to the exit or stairs. Tirada excelente. Muito boa.

Now this is the kind of shot I love. To me, it suggests it was taken my a CCTV camera with a bug in it, that kept recording people passing the same spot and superimposing one after the other so that they merge into a ghostly outline. Someone comes across the 'faulty' tape and after initially being bored by it, becomes transfixed as the repetitive motion darkly hints at something more than a banal recording of urban matchstick men scurrying down tunnels of white light.

i interpret this in a different way to others...to me it doesn't symbolise rushing, it perfectly portrays how i experience the world when i'm surrounded by people. everything slows right down, i can sense that everyone around me is probably moving at a normal pace and going about things as they usually would, but for me it's like living in a slow motion world. things stand still and i experience only a ghostly impression that life possibly continues. figures become blurs...and the figure in the foreground of your photo sums it up best...the ghostly outline grows and expands and morphs into something super-lifesize that threatens and engulfs.
it's not often i see something visual that explains what words can't...so congrats, girl! :)

I`m always fascinated by the world of underground. Very interesting to read your thoughts. The impression of moving people in the pale light is fantastic! Inspiring Ana!

Nothing is more lonely than one in a big city. The other millions are aliens, in the best, all do see us, we became transparent, their sight went through us, nobody have an human look to us.It is true everywhere, the only big city where I feel I am someone , with a camera in hands is New York. Or have I a special fondness to NY ?
I love a picture that make us think and feel.
Your pictures.
Abraço,
jorge

This has the feeling of Frankfurt Airport, in transit after a long flight without much sleep. Blurry impressions. The bright light, the people.

C'est superbe, Ana, j'aime la lumière très forte dans cette image, l'arche du plafond et les passants qui ressemblent à des fantômes grâce à cette très longue exposition. Bravo!

It's a universal daily occurrence, Lisboa Chiado or San Jose Diridon.

There are those rushing, and those stopping to look at the other rushing, those feeling at risk in a crowded place like a metro station, and those feeling protected by the ceiling. What matters for a photographer is to have the eyes open, and you definitely are proving it, finding a very interesting subject in this place. Technically well done as well. Voted.

Transience and anonymity fill the empty space with ghosts who's stories we never will know. The places they rush to, the things they are thinking - their lives - will remain a mystery and only their essence remains. That's what I see.. it's a fantastic photo, Ana.

So there is the wall of white tiles... impressive feeling, not only the moving one, but from the place, with those archs of light, and this clarity. I thought to a church at my first look. There is a spiritual atmosphere that the ghostly presences reinforced.
(PS: "il faudrait être bien fou pour vivre sans folie..." de mémoire, Erasme, Eloge de la Folie!;))
