Ne Me Quitte Pas

My favourite song from Jacques Brel

Ne me quitte pas
Il faut oublier
Tout peut s'oublier
Qui s'enfuit déjà
Oublier le temps
Des malentendus
Et le temps perdu
A savoir comment
Oublier ces heures
Qui tuaient parfois
A coups de pourquoi
Le cœur du bonheur
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Moi je t'offrirai
Des perles de pluie
Venues de pays
Où il ne pleut pas
Je creuserai la terre
Jusqu'après ma mort
Pour couvrir ton corps
D'or et de lumière
Je ferai un domaine
Où l'amour sera roi
Où l'amour sera loi
Où tu seras reine
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Ne me quitte pas
Je t'inventerai
Des mots insensés
Que tu comprendras
Je te parlerai
De ces amants-là
Qui ont vu deux fois
Leurs cœurs s'embraser
Je te raconterai
L'histoire de ce roi
Mort de n'avoir pas
Pu te rencontrer
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
D'un ancien volcan
Qu'on croyait trop vieux
Il est paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu'un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir
Ne s'épousent-ils pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Ne me quitte pas
Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
A te regarder
Danser et sourire
Et à t'écouter
Chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir
L'ombre de ton ombre
L'ombre de ta main
L'ombre de ton chien
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas.

I had uploaded this photo yesterday, but deleted it because I've felt
that it didn't make justice to the lyrics and my way of presenting it
might be a bit too personal, raw and ugly. Those you've been checking my works
know by now that I vouch for a certain aesthetics and this image has none of it.
But Jacques Brel's songs were not meant to be pretty but to be felt, so...
here it is "Ne me quitte pas" or "Don't leave me" in English, my way.

I've brought this one back for Guilliom aka Natisumber Merci de voir vraiment celui-ci

Hmmm, I don't know about this photo--Brel's dispair has such energy--I'll bring you pearls of rain from a desert country, I'll smash the earth until I'm almost dead to cover your body with gold, with light--whereas this photo shows a dispair that is motionless, that has given up, that has realized that the loss is real. Perhaps it shows us how Brel feels after he has done all he can do to keep her from leaving him, and now she's gone. Yeah, that's it. Apres qu'elle lui a quitté

Good thing you put this one back! You're too hard on yourself Ana, dear. This is a powerful, original,
even abstract image! Love the mood, the lighting, and your use of spacing. It looks so simple, but says
so much. Very creative as always, loved the lyrics, although I had to have it translated! :-)

"Ne me quite pas" c´est une très belle chanson de Jaques Brel. Comme toujour , une chanson avec des paroles qui sont comme des pierres dans notre âme. Ça me rapelle mes très lontains jours , le temps perdu , les amours qui j´ai apeller...ne me quite pas.
Très bien,Ana, poesie est images.

Your image says so much, even if you don't understand the words of Jacques Brel or now his song. Thanks for sharing.

An intriguing, original and beautiful image for this beautiful song.

Eggshell against wall.Tender yolk, bruised, cowering and defenseless. As if peeled naked by scouring anger to the last skin of identity. As hopeless putty squashed into a crack.Pressed, smothered by an overwhelming glare.White surrender means nothing more than a pebble eaten by the sands.Eroded, tearfully washed, polished by compromise and rounded into submission until as insignificant as one selfless sand grain.

Estas palavras ecoam em todos os momentos do passado que ainda me saltam à memória.

I can't read the words, but I can certainly feel their impact via this image. I see nothing ugly in it. If ever there was a portrait of vulnerability, you've given one to us here, Ana. By abstracting yourself in this way, you make us become you. So it's not only you who is vulnerable, it is all of us.

I've never heard this song.. that I know of.. must be beautiful.
Stark and raw... vulnerability for all to see..

Powerful image.

Your image is so powerful as the lyrics of Jacques Brel.
Photography is the medium that can express our feelings and heart.
Sometimes no words can describe these feelings and psychism better than a photo.

Merci à toi, Ana!;) Et doublement merci... avant tout pour cette image que tu as eu raison de republier.
C'est magnifique d'intensité, d'intimité, d'intimement lié aux mots... tu livres une part profonde de toi-même, et le geste est superbe. Bravo.

One of my favourites as well. I have heard versions of this song by Sting (not so good) and Nina Simone (amazing. I do believe Janis Joplin does a version as well. Like the photo as well.
