This was building in which my father lived from the mid-1930s until he was forced to leave
Vienna in 1938. This apartment is the one about which he spoke when he talked about his life there.
I have the original plans that he had drawn up for its interior decoration and furnishing. The location is quite central,
not far from the Rathaus (city hall), the Burgtheatre, and the University of Vienna. I had stopped by this building
on several previous visits to Vienna and it always seemed to be well-occupied.
This time, however (October 2006), it appeared to have fallen on hard times and to be vacant.
