My parents chose Montreal (where we had some cousins) for our 1953 vacation and we went via Mackinac Island, Michigan. This picture - terribly faded and only partly restored with Photoshop -shows our family about to take a ride on one of the island's famous surreys. Then, as now, cars were not allowed on Mackinac Island. As the tourist brochures say, transportation is limited to horse and buggy, bicycle, and foot.
