Vatican City (Stato della Città del Vaticano) is of course a different country from Italia, and a different city from Roma. At only 0.49 sq km (0.19 sq M), it's the smallest country on Earth.

However before we entered the Vatican, we did of course have to pass through Roma, and it didn't seem worthwhile to create a separate national gallery for it. (Especially since the country does not appear on PBase's drop-down list of countries (big surprise) and on current performance I doubt that the owners would lift a finger to rectify that.)

Doubly so since we saw only a small part of Vatican City; indeed we saw none of the main part of the city and saw "only" some of the museums and the Sistine Chapel (where photography is forbidden).

"Only", he says. Those museums are so huge and spread across so many levels you could spend a week in there and STILL not see everything.
