2016 Day 13 Part 3: Sorrento, City of Napoli (NA), Campania (Thu 01 Sep 16)

Think of the Golfo di Napoli (Bay of Naples) as being like an open sided box tilted at 45 degrees to the left. Napoli itself is in the top right corner of the box. Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii are on the closed, right hand side of the box. On the base of the box is a large peninsula of land that juts out into the Mar Tirreno (Tyrrhenian Sea, part of the Mediterranean). It is called the Sorrento Peninsula, Sorrentine Peninsula, or better still, la penisola sorrentina.

On the southern side of it in the Golfo di Salerno (Gulf of Salerno), along which we find the famed Amalfi Coast... which is an absolute sod to get to by land (the narrow, winding roads are reserved for those with a strong sense of fatalism and/or a death wish), and as of the time of writing, we haven't.

But we HAVE visited one of the towns on the northern side of the Golfo di Napoli; Sorrento, legendary home of the beverage Limoncello. This is (or will be, when I get around to publishing the photos) the story of our one afternoon and evening dinner there, on the first day of September in the long departed year of 2016.

(Yes, Sorrento does fall into the province (Metropolitan city) of Napoli. The city area is quite expansive.)
