Liguria

Liguria is a coastal region in north-west Italia. It is the third smallest of the 20 regions, at 5,416 km2 (2,091 sq mi). It forms an arc south of the region of Piemonte (Piedmont), bumping into France on its western edge.

The main city is Genova (Genoa in English), which sits roughly on the middle of the coastline just before it starts to curve to the south west. We have yet to see it. And may not, who knows?

Near the eastern end of Liguria's coast there are five towns called, collectively, the Cinque Terre (5 lands). Them, we did get to see on the 2016 trip. They're essentially the only part of Liguria that we've seen to date.

Liguria is divided into 4 provinces, all of which hug the coastline. Going west to east we find:
[*] Imperia (IM). This borders France on its western edge.
[*] Savona (SV). The largest city (more a town) has the same name, and contains 61K of the province's 280K.
[*] Metropolitan City of Genoa (GE), which contains the aforementioned capital of Genoa and has a population of 885K, more than the other three combined.
[*] La Spezia (SP), the smallest at only 881 sq km. It is here that you will find the Cinque Terre.
