In this cell, Colin Campbell Ross spent the last two months of his life after being convicted, wrongly it seems, for murder in 1921. We will hear that tale in the next image.
Of course some things have changed since then; the electric light switch would not have existed in 1921. You would have had light if the warders said you had light, not that it's likely that there were electric lights in the cells at a time when it was still a relative luxury.
And of course the door would rarely have been open, meaning that the cell would have been rather more claustrophobic. How claustrophobic? See the next shot for yourself.
