Much as I liked the leading lines in image 2025, I did also want a shot to put the stone arcades in the context of the basilica. There were a couple of shots that I took around the Piazza between that shot in this one (as is obvious from the number gap), though none worth using in this gallery.

By the time I turned around to take this perspective shot, one of our tour group had walked out in front of me. Not intentionally, I hasten to add; as I said I had been taking shots in various directions so she had no reason to assume that I was going to be returning to this one.

Most of the time I'm not fussed if someone walks into my shot because most of the time (there are exceptions) I want to capture what is there rather than an idealised version of it. Also, sometimes you can get a great shot that way. I wouldn't regard this as being one of those, but it does its job of showing how the arcade relates to the main church.

In this case, I could have waited until she walked off, but of course I had no idea how much time I had save for the fact that on a tour like this in particular, it was never going to be enough. That being the case, I took the shot regardless.

While it's not ever going to be an exceptionally memorable shot, it does represent a time, and a place, and a pair of people who will never be there again. Thanks for that, Simone.
