Ice-World is a company that provides temporary ice rinks in various locations around the world. On this occasion they had provided one to Christchurch. After all, it was still winter when we visited.

I have to admit, with this group of shots I wasn't really focusing on anything or anyone because everybody was moving around too fast. It was therefore just a case of "spray and pray", and see what comes out the other side. For the most part it was just a pile of junk, but there were two images that I found appealing.

Generally I don't feature youngsters in my photos; if they appear at all, it's only because it's unavoidable. On this occasion, however the combination of this photo being 5 years old at the time of publication (and the kid therefore probably being unrecognisable now), and the quirkiness of the situation made it a little bit irresistible.

Everybody on the rink seems to be with one or more other people, save for our red jacketed subject. Her facial expression does not suggest that she is in any way distressed by this, but is just contemplating what her next move will be and taking stock of her situation. She has such an air of quiet confidence about her that seems so out of place with her age, and she is so perfectly poised on her skates, that I really couldn't ignore this shot.
