Cathedral Square, the open area which includes our hotel and the shattered Christchurch Cathedral, seems to be an open-air gathering point for local Christchurchians. I had of course originally been shooting the chess match, but when I look more closely at the photo I thought that the various faces in the background: the chess player, the flutist, the guy striding powerfully, the guy looking at his phone... They all made for a more interesting subject. I therefore zoomed in on them and we will come back to the open-air game of chess shortly.

I even kept the sign for the Teriyaki Burger in frame which... eww. But I suppose some people like that sort of thing.
