Moving closer to the bottom of the main pyramid, we can see through to one of the buildings of the museum which surround it. This building would have been constructed by Napoleon III during the period 1852–1857. The pyramid itself was completed in 1989 as part of then-president François Mitterrand's Grand Louvre Project (1981–2002). It was designed by Chinese American architect Ieoh Ming Pei who, interestingly, died only in the year of our visit (2019) at the age of 102.
