200320_063753 Moon Over Quarantine Ships, With Silhouette of Killer Dog (Fri 20 Mar 20)

Sandon Point, Illawarra, NSW, Australia

Week 1 of the Great Quarantine of 2020 ends. Here in 'STRAYA! we're still allowed out of our houses (because it's not like we can grow food in our bathrooms) so we need to venture out to sparsely stocked supermarkets. We're even allowed to go to bars and restaurants, though only ones with a minimum of 4 square metres per person. Cinemas are still open, but are only selling half of their tickets with staggered seats. Gatherings of more than 500 (or is it 100 this week? I lose track) are banned.

But unlike some parts of Europe we're still allowed to go for a walk in a park or along the beach as long as we keep about 1.5 metres of distance from each other. (Warning: Formula 1 in-joke coming.) Those who know me know that I'm as touchy-feely as Ron Dennis, so there are no problems there.

Cruise ships are banned now, but they don't just disappear off the face of the earth. Well, actually sometimes they DO which is why you will never see me on one of the things, but leaving aside mid Atlantic icebergs or giant waves or collisions at sea, they don't. However port fees are horrendous. So where are they? Parked off the coast near my place. Four of them with crews, but no passengers. I can't really identify this one, but it has three other sisters out of frame.

I caught this one this morning with the silhouette of the Sandon Point navigation marker, and the silhouettes of a man and his dog. In fact his little, orange, tail wagging fluff ball dog had "attacked" me most viciously only a few minutes earlier. Forget the virus, I could feel naught but paralytic fear at being yapped at... I mean, snarled at... by such a large and fearsome beast. (Unfortunately said beast is mostly hidden behind the navigation marker, and is hard to see in the web-sized version of the image.)

I pulled back on this one to incorporate the crescent moon overhead, but I suspect that this may have made the shot a tad ambitious.

Beautiful scene and I like the moon included. Too bad the yappy little beast had to interrupt your walk. Strange times we are living in. So weird to see the photos of Times Square in NYC empty. Stay well!

This is a fine and striking representation of our world now. V
