200131_142210 Adventures In Thermodynamics and Humidity (Fri 31 Jan 20)

At home, Illawarra, NSW

How do you know when it's summer in Australia in general and Sydney in particular?

You're trying to work from home despite the heat. And the humidity. And the discomfort.
You decide to hop in the pool for half an hour during your lunch break.

The water does not feel cold. The water does not feel cool. The air is so humid, and the water so warm that you are not even certain that you are IN the pool. The only evidence is that there is a dropped crepe mytle petal and a dead insect floating alongside you.
Aside, that is, from a live, venomous funnel web spider floating near you, such that you need to rectify the "live" part of that as a matter of some urgency. (I spared you the image of that since I did not have the camera with me at that time. OMDs are weather-proof, but not THAT weatherproof.)

You get out of the pool after 30 minutes.

You lack any sensation of ever having been IN a pool.

You find the dog collapsed on her back in the coolest part of the house which, let's face it, ain't that cool.

And tomorrow will be worse.

Welcome to Sydney Summer 2020 and its backing track "And The Heat Goes On, Baby!"

It's a beautiful 11 degrees back home in Roma.

An even more beautiful 6 in Torino.
