"Take a look at my navigator,
He's the only one I got.
One heck of a navigator,
He really went and found a lot.
Take a sail boat, cross the water,
Like to find America,
Wasn't called that, now it's called that,
Vespucci made it come true,
That's what Florentines used to go do..."
With all due apologies to Roger Hodgson and Supertramp. Actually it was after lunch that we saw this, but whatever.
There are very few people who have entire continents, much less two continents named after them. In fact, there's only one. This guy here. Amerigo Vespucci proved that the lands discovered by Columbus were not part of Asia but rather a separate continent. And for that, both of the continents that he visited were named after him.
This bust was carved in the 17th to 18th centuries and is attributed to Giovan Battista Foggini.
