It was at this point that I was feeling every apprehension that I had had about group tours. The objective was to take us up to the town square as the starting point of the tour. Which is all well and good, but it meant punching it up the main street at maximum velocity, seeing and taking in absolutely nothing.
I had dropped back a little bit (as you can see here), trying to take a look at some of the buildings, shops and homes on the way up without actually losing touch with the main group. Truthfully, I'm not sure that I will ever get back here again; there are too many other places in Italy to see and there will be too few opportunities to do it in the next few years. But if I do, the next time I go up this street it will be at a leisurely pace, taking the opportunity to browse the buildings along the side.
