Two of us needed to be on the 06:00 TGV train from Milano Porto Garibaldi station to Paris. Our hotel was near the other main station, Milano Centrale (for certain values of "near"). As the only Italian speaker (for certain values of "Italian speaker") it fell to me to do linguistic escort duties out to Porto Garibaldi. The plan was that I would then make my way back to Milano Centrale by Metro, buy our tickets to Tirano further to the north from which we would catch the Bernina Express into Switzerland (those tickets can't be booked ahead of time; the train does not have allocated seating), then return to the hotel for breakfast while the 4th member of our crew got to sleep in. We would then pack and head to Milano Centrale by taxi with our bags, and catch the train up to Tirano.
And so it came to pass. This shot is from stage 1 of the day, when I had just returned to Milano Centrale from Porto Garibaldi. The purple light is of course from advertising which is simply every-frapping-where these days. Still, it imparted an interesting glow to the old world monolith that is Milano Centrale.
