160522_070533_0140 Holding Back The Tide (Sun 22 May 16)

McCauley's Beach, Illawarra, NSW

Holding back the incoming tide of work, language learning, work, finances, work, upskilling and work, with eyes focussed 13 weeks into the future when I finally hit Roma.

Oh, wait, that's me, not this guy.

This guy is executing a perfectly balanced manoeuvre in the autumnal surf. But his hand position almost makes it look like he's pushing back the incoming waves. Or trying to. Believe me dude, I know the feeling.

I'm actually surprised that I got shots which are as clear as this. When I went out this morning an ugly smog layer was locked down over the coast yet again, the result of yet more hazard control burning.

I understand the need for it, but after almost two weeks of it I'm amazed that there still is any bushland left in the Sydney basin to burn off.

Great view, hard to get action just right and you did it here.

We get smoke from controlled burns and from Mexico burning cropland. This is a terrific action capture, Alan. The hands are positioned in a mesmerizing circle of power wave and yes, he seems to be pushing it back. Just perfect! V

The detail and action are superb. I wouldn't have noticed the smog. Beautiful detail in the water. Fortunately we don't have controlled burns in Upstate New York due to our abundant rain. V

Wonderful capture. We have our "controlled burns " here in the States also. At least they've gotten a bit smarter. They use to do them in the summer because being warmer, they figured it would burn faster. Can you say out of control and major wildfires. Now they do them in the winter and just let them smolder. At least in California. V

Same here Alan, so much of this "controlled burning" we're totally sick of it too.. but
what a great shot of the surfer!
