20150516_007247 It Didn't End with the Hindenburg (Sat 16 May)

At Home, Illawarra, NSW

There are still airships out there; not many of them, and none hauling passengers or cargo on a regular basis, but they exist anyway. This is claimed to be the only one in the southern hemisphere, and I have no reason to doubt that claim. Launched in October 2014, the Appliances Online Legend Blimp is 39 m long and 11 m wide. It is never deflated and has a crew of 13 though I don't think all of them fly at the same time.

Although primarily an advertising platform for the company that sponsors it, the low and slow cruising ability of the blimp makes it a capable camera platform as well. On the Saturday afternoon, we just spotted it drifting southward towards Wollongong.
